WHY IS THIS COURSE DIFFERENT? o, WHAT MAKES THIS COURSE DIFFERENT?

OBJECTIVES FOR THE STEM CELL TRAINING COURSE

Describe the basics of cellular biology and list the properties that define stem cells. Identify the various types of cellular divisions and types of stem cells, along with their characteristics.

Describe Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and identify the growth factors and proteins that cause the natural healing cascade. List the currently treated conditions, such as orthopedic conditions, that are treated with Platelet Rich Plasma.

Describe the current Regulatory Environment for Regenerative Therapeutics. Review current state laws and regulations that influence the stem cell industry. Review the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FDA) of 1938 and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and how they apply to stem cell therapy.

Describe Induced Pluripotent (iPS) Stem Cells and explain the criteria that define true iPS cells, as well as some of the clinical applications of iPS cells.

Describe how Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) function, identify the conditions treated by ADSCs, and recall the methods used to isolate ADSCs.

Describe how Bone Marrow-Derived Stem Cells (BMDSCs) function, identify the conditions treated by BMDSCs, and recall the methods used to isolate BMDSCs.

Identify the difference between Adipose Derived Stem Cells and Bone Marrow-Derived Stem Cells.

Identify the differences between Human Embryonic Stem Cells (hESCs) and the legal/ethical issues affecting the cell technology.

Describe the stem cell banking process and outline the steps from removing the tissue sample from the patient to delivering the cells back to the patient.

List the conditions currently treated with cellular therapies and incorporate guidelines to improve comprehension of current research and evidence for stem cell therapy.
